TEAM 18 // Virtual conference platform
WorkWork a virtual conference platform with infinite opportunities.
We want to make virtual conference networking and socialising experiences that are better than in the real world. We want to do that by creating Sims for virtual conferences. We want to give you the freedom to walk around and choose who you want to speak to.
TRACK: Future of work
The networking experience of virtual events are currently not comparable to that of physical events, we want to solve this by recreating the networking experience of an event in a virtual environment. The most common solutions out there focus on the keynote experience while networking is heavily neglected in the form of a chat bar with limited control.
In order to scale as fast as possible, we will use a two-step approach: The first step is validating that it is possible to make networking events of 10-20 users virtual. We will do this by focusing on Architects who are attending networking events such as development workshops, discussions, and more.
In the second step, we will have the platform in place to facilitate networking and we will be in a good position to expand into creating entire conferences in the size of several thousands of participants. Here we can easily create conferences since they simply will consist of several events similar to the ones we created in the first step. Furthermore, we will widen our user base by growing to adjacent industries engineering, construction, manufacturing, and more.
A virtual networking platform where users have the freedom to network like in the real world. We will utilise existing technologies to make video calls but innovating in how we give the user the ability to connect with people in an intuitive way.
Our focus is to facilitate a natural networking behavior on a virtual conference. We do this by giving the individual the freedom to choose who they want to talk with and walk intuitively around in the room using a floor plan. Versus existing tools like Zoom where it’s hard to navigate once the number of users gets too high.
Compared to a traditional event, we will avoid monetary and environmental traveling costs.
Live transcripts and translations can play a natural part in the event, which will be just one of the possible features that will enable people to join on their own circumstances resulting in a more inclusive experience . It will be very cost-efficient, which will enable people of more income classes to take part.
To sum up it has all the advantages that come with going to a conference from the comfort of your home.
In a platform like this networking effects apply, so scaling fast will be important. We start with a freemium model to gather momentum and usage data and add premium features.
The virtual conference has a tremendous impact on the overall use of resources in setting up a conference (single-use cutlery, logistics, etc). Another impact is the CO2 emissions associate with conferences, a 6-day avg. conference attendant represents 35% of an avg. person yearly emission [1,2,3]. Attending only 4 conferences would result in the entire avg. yearly emissions of a person. Traditional conferences are not inclusive enough for people with disabilities and different income classes. Furthermore, the travel time associate with conferences will be reduced to 0 since there will no reason to travel.

We are studying together in the MSc of Technology Entrepreneurship at DTU.
We are ourselves the end-user since we love to go to networking events and conferences.
